Longtime Companion

One of the reasons I love LJ is that someone will mention something that reminds you of something you haven't thought of in awhile. I often go from LJ to iTunes to download a song, or go on over to Amazon. Today
The other day,
bearringsd mentioned that he had watched Longtime Companion for the first time. I haven't seen this movie in at least 5 years.
I dug it out tonight. My VHS copy was still in the original shrinkwrap. The previous copy I had was taped from HBO. I ordered this copy at least 5 years ago.
This movie still brings me to tears. This time, I started crying halfway through it. Especially as the dates flashed on the screen. I made note of one date, and it was before I acquired HIV. The next date was after the fact. The scene at the end always makes me cry. This time I was sobbing. It's for that reason that I prefer to see this movie alone.
One message of the film is to live life to the fullest. That's something that has been on my mind a lot lately. One I need to hear often.

Date: 2005-01-29 07:10 am (UTC)Another movie that gets me is the HBO film "And the Band Played On", that one gets me because it was released on HBO the same week my second partner died. Even though this movie isn't nearly as much of a tear jerker as the first, I am even more wet eyed by the end of this one for that reason.

Date: 2005-01-30 11:17 pm (UTC)Some things are too powerful to face all the time. Still, it's good to bring them out once in a while and be reminded.
Better to cry over real grief than to pretend it isn't there. Facing what's real makes it possible to enjoy what's left--which is a lot.
I should watch that movie again myself...
