I tried the new Chantico drinking chocolate at Starbears today after reading the recent LJ entry by [livejournal.com profile] ronm. Ron describes it perfectly: "It's like drinking chocolate pudding right out of the pan." It's a bit rich for me. It's not something I'd want too often, but would make a decent occasional treat. I'm not sure how well it will work. The barista uses the same steamer thing that they use to steam milk. I saw him wipe it off after steaming the chocolate, but I still saw a bit of chocolate remaining.

OMG that sounds so good :-) I will have to try one soon and if I get addicted it is your fault!

The only bad thing about those fancy drinks at Starbears is that they have more calories than a Big Mac Super-sized meal.

Sugary goodness

Yeah, as soon as I got home I checked out the nutrition information.

NOTE: This is billed as a DESSERT item.

and that is only for 6 ounces!

The jumbo size must have 4X the calories.

All that chocolaty goodness...hmmmmmm

For this drink, they only sell the 6 ounce size. They even have a special cup for it.

Is there something wrong with me that I actually drink coffee at Starbucks?

Well and ogle the men but still......

I believe that drinking coffee is the appropriate action for it. Have you seen other people actually do something else with it at Starbucks? ;-)

I think I'm actually going to retract my recommendation. I have been craving sweets all day today, and nearly grabbed a jelly donut at work - YIKES!

Definitely addictive and harmful to any diet...

I'll watch out for those jelly-donut-warning signs! It's what I imagine the chocolate river in Willy Wonka would taste like.

I guess that makes me Augustus Gloop...

And I always thought I was Veruca.

I saw someone today with a Chantico - he was dipping his cookie in it, and it looked good

thanks for the recommendation, Gary. After having one, my brain went into combo mode. Must find the perfect match with having one of these decadent dessert drinks.

You know, this Chantico stuff just snuck right UP on me. I was near Lincoln Center tonight and decided to get a hot chocolate to warm me up before I headed home -- I can't do caffeinated coffee in the evening because it keeps me up, but chocolate is sort of okay. Anyway, I stepped into a Starbucks and was assaulted by all the Chantico signage... since the Starbucks hot chocolate is always pretty weak by my standards, I thought "YES!" So the barista told me ALL about it. Then came the blow: They won't start offering it till TOMORROW! Fuckshitpissrimscrew!

I settled for a decaf mocha, even though I don't really like the decaf taste.

So I'll have to stop by and try Chantico tomorrow... I'll be sure to have had a grounding protein-filled meal beforehand so it doesn't send me into a sugar tailspin. :-)

Where's that name come from, anyway? Sounds to me like fake Mexican Spanish, or something. Or maybe the corporation that handles Chanticleer's concert schedule...?

yes, eat first. That stuff will probably be responsible for sugar comas nationwide.
