Steve was right. In Las Vegas, it's easy to lose sense that it's Christmastime. Caesar's Palace had a beautiful Christmas tree out front, and all the casinos were playing non-stop Christmas music, but it still didn't feel like Christmastime. Having already exchanged gifts on Monday night, I certainly had the feeling that Christmas had come and gone.

There was no coffeemaker in the room, so I went downstairs to fetch some. Of course, I had to lose $20 in the poker machine during the trip. I dropped more money in the machines this trip than ever before. Next time, I'll need to remember to go for a shorter time!

Drank the coffee, then I went back down to gamble some more while Steve got ready. Not having much luck at Harrahs, we went over to the Venetian. Steve had never been there. I think that's my favorite place in Vegas to visit. It's decorated so well inside, and it's nice to have that shopping area on a different floor than the casino. The wandering minstrels had Madonna-mics, which was different from my visit two years ago. They did a very good job of "Carol of the Bells," and the tenor was pretty woofy.

We ate lunch there, and I had some really good bowtie pasta at the Wolfgang Puck place. After lunch, we went downstairs to lose more money there. After a couple hours, we headed back to our hotel. Steve wanted a nap, so I stopped off at Casino Royale to play video poker. They had a good multi-denomination machine that went from 25 cents up to $5. I gambled at 25 cent and 50 cents levels back and forth. The machine was being pretty generous, so I upped the bet to the $1 level. That next turn I got a Royal Flush. Wow. $4000. Merry Christmas to me! Kewl.

Got the money up to the room, and Steve and I came up with a policy on when to split money. We always said that we'd split the lottery winnings if we won it. But at lower levels, when do we split it? We decided that if it's taxable winnings, we'd set aside 35% for taxes and split the rest equally. That's a good plan for us.

After some napping we gambled away a bit of the money then went to the steakhouse at Harrahs. It was pretty good, but quite a bit of food. Just made me sleepy.

Gambled some more after dinner. Yeah, definitely stay for a shorter period next time! After losing some more money, I did get $250 back at a slot machine. An incredibly LOUD slot machine. It was pretty embarassing to sit there with the bells going off waiting for the attendant to show up to pay me. Two showed up, and the guy was really flirty. I liked him much more after he got the machine to shut up.

We went to bed fairly early. No visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads. Not a Vegas thing.
