Work Holiday Party
Dec. 10th, 2003 10:28 amYesterday was my office holiday party from 3-6pm. It was for all of the people under my SVP. From my department of nine, two of us showed. My manager didn't show. Her boss was there and walked past me a couple times. She didn't bother to acknowledge me.
When I was a manager, I was taught MBWA - management by walking around. I made a point to speak to each of my direct reports daily. I was expected to show up at these company parties, and I made a point to speak to each of the staff who reported to me or to my direct reports.
Times change. My boss and her boss just do what will advance them. Easy to spot. Lots of managers are like that. I'm glad that I've had other ones in the past who were better examples.
