Our flight from SFO to SEA on Alaska was at 7:00am on Thursday morning. The shuttle picked us up as scheduled at 4:30am. I didn't sleep well, so I got up at 3:45am and got ready instead of waiting for the 4am alarm. The van already had 4 passengers, and the driver made two more stops after he picked us up. Full van.

Flight was fine. It was full. I was kinda surprised since Thanksgiving Day itself is usually light. Flight was uneventful, but clear skies made for a good view of Mount Ranier. Rented the car and headed off to Fred & Bryan's. I found out the hard way that Steve can't read maps or directions while the car is going. I checked the directions and made it to their house ok. Without me saying anything, Fred accurately described Steve's navigating abilities. I guess if you'd been partners with someone for 19 years, you figure out a thing or two.

We left around 12:30pm to drive up to Snoqualmie Pass. The skies were so clear, and the scenery was beautiful. It was a reminder why I liked living in Seattle so much when I was a kid.

We arrived at the "ski cabin" at 1:30pm. This 3-level house was hardly a "cabin." It caught me by surprise that there was so much snow. It was piled a couple feet high along the driveway.

There were 11 guys for dinner. What a great bunch. Turns out that I had briefly met Dr. Dan once before at the Lone Star, as he's friends with Vic & Dave. I was taken back when one of the guys, David, mentioned my blog. I'm used to knowing that people on my friends' list read this crap, but it's pretty surreal when total strangers mention it. Later I found out that David, originally from Canada, had lived in San Francisco in the mansion on Douglass. Yep, same place where I lived before getting the flat with Steve. Small world.

Dinner was great. Some things that stuck out were Kelly's brown bread, Dan's potatoes with peppers, and David's pumpkin cheesecake with bourbon whipped cream. I've got to get their recipes! BTW - David, email it to me, ok? And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, today, December 4th!

After dinner we played Uno. Not just any Uno, but BARBIE Uno. Yikes. I was the only one with Barbie issues or "Barbie baggage." It's the same as regular Uno except for some super bright colors and a "trade hands" card.

We took a walk out in the snow for a bit. I haven't been in the mountains in a long time. That was great. This was one of my favorite Thanksgivings. We drove home and watched a DVD episode of Farscape before heading to bed.

Dr. Dan's a great guy. I met him back in New Haven even before I met Jack.

Dan adores Spain. Or he adores how the men of Spain adore him. Something like that. A Francophile is someone who loves France. I can't think of the word for someone who loves Spain, so I dub Dan a Pedrophile.

Hispanophile is the word for it ... although Pedrophile has more humor!
