Spent a lot of yesterday working on a draft of my review. The review period ends December 31st, but my boss wants it completed by November 7th. I noted in the review that it was drafted about two months before end of period...

I went home at lunch to take out the trash bins. Having to catch the train after work, I wouldn't be home at a decent hour to take them out. The wheels are damned noisy. I took them out previously at 9pm and the neighbor came outside to see what all the noise was. Whatever.

I caught the 6pm express Caltrain to Redwood City. It was my first time to the venue, so I walked there first from the train station to time how long it takes. I had a 9:32pm return train to catch, so I wanted to make sure I got back in time. It was about an 8-minute walk to the church. Hmmmm. Class ends at 9:25. Gonna be tight, especially since there are no train ticket machines near the platform entrance.

I grabbed a bite to eat at Great Wall. I had to pee, and it was the first restaurant I came to. They did have a "dinner for one" special for $6.75, so at least the price was ok, even if the food wasn't. I'll not be going back there.

The C1 class was interesting. There were enough people for 3 squares. Most were students, with maybe a half dozen angels? There were at least 6 straight people. With C1 classes not offered too often, I guess they get it where they can. The venue was ok. A little cramped, but we checkerboarded the squares for a bit more room. I was surprised to see a few of the dancers there. They do poorly at Advanced and even at Plus. C1 was no exception.

The four new C1 calls that Andy taught are fairly simple. I did get the "rush" of doing the calls for the first time, after only learned them "on paper." He included a few non-standard positions not mentioned in the book, so that was interesting. Some people had great difficulty. If they are having problems during the first week, I hate to see how they'll be when we get to the more difficult stuff.

There were some good angels and some good students who were repeating the class. I got in their squares more often than with the bad students. I did pretty well. If anyone had doubts about me moving up to C1, I think those doubts have now been removed. Towards the end I got tired and got "gender-confused" for a couple calls, but that's par for the course. To focus on learning, I'll try to remember to stick to one gender throughout the evening.

The last tip ended a bit after the scheduled 9:25pm. I left and ran for about one block. (I ran past 3 raccoons emerging from the grounds of Sequoia High.) Eric saw me running, and he stopped his truck to give me a ride for one block to the train station. I just had time to purchase the ticket and get to the platform as the train was arriving. I guess some folks from SF carpool, so I'll contact Judith today to see if I can get in on that in the future.

Got home a bit after 11pm. Played Scrabble to unwind, and got to bed just before midnight.
