After church yesterday morning, we went to Safeway to pick up some dessert for the cookout at Jack & Steve's. While we were there, we ordered a couple birthday cakes for Friday's party. One less thing to do. We pick them up on Friday afternoon. Leslie asked if I'd have a bear on my cake, so I got one with a dopey bear on the cake. I should have been more creative.
We got to Jack & Steve's just before 2pm. Bruno & Jamal from France were there and Gardnbear Joe. Joe wasn't feeling well and left shortly thereafter. Their friend Eduardo showed up. He kept pretty quiet all afternoon. Vic & Dave showed up around 2:45pm. Just as I suspected, Vic and Double-0-Steven got in some animated, deep conversation. My eyes just glaze over. I love them both for being so smart and opinionated, but that type of conversation doesn't interest me too much. Talk to me about people. And do tell all!
The cookout was really good, although the unusually cold & misty weather sucked. It didn't ruin the good time. Jack cooked on his new Weber, and naturally everything was delicious. That boy can cook.
After we ate, we watched some short clips on TV, including "Mr. Bungle." Jamal, Bruno, and Eduardo then left. Steve asked if anyone wanted to play Fluxx. Having seen me write about it in my blog, Jack & Steve were interested to see what it was about. It was quite the different dynamic with 6 people playing. A lot different than two players. I'm guessing that 4 players might be optimal.
About 6:30pm we left. Steve wanted to go to the Lone Star. We stopped first so I could change from shorts to jeans. Got to the LS and waited in line for about 20 minutes. With the limit of patrons upped on Friday from 49 to 99, the crowd was much better. I can live with a limit of 99 for now. Rumor is that they are trying to have the architectural changes done by July 4th. Not sure if that's just a rumor, but let's hope it's true. Dave Dayton was on the patio, so I got to chat with him for awhile. He asked me to help him "gay it up" a bit. LOL. The man emits no gaydar signals, and he's finding that it can be awkward at work since it takes his co-workers so long to figure out he's gay. Heck, I didn't know he was gay until I saw him at the Lone Star one night. I guess he asked me since I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. Just light your tiara on fire, dear.
Got home and played a few hands of Fluxx. Having some beer at the cookout and then at the LS, Steve was tipsy. He's cute as can be, but Fluxx has some complicated rules, and it's not too fun when he can't concentrate. We ended up watching his tape of last week's West Wing episode. Then I fell asleep watching South Park. Woke up and climbed into bed around 11:45pm.
Got up this morning around 7am and made coffee and a box mix of blueberry muffins. Steve stayed in bed until 8am, so I read Sunday's paper. Today Steve is going to catch up on watching the rest of the tv shows he taped last week. I'm going to busy getting things ready for the party. Most of it just involves doing the rest of my unpacking. Gotta place an online order to Safeway to deliver beverages and ice on Friday afternoon. That'll be much easier than lugging that stuff from the car. We'll go to Costco on Friday morning for the platters, pick up the cakes from Safeway on the way home, and just relax and wait for the Safeway delivery before the party. It's our birthday, dammit, we should be able to enjoy the day. Hopefully we'll squeeze in a nap that afternoon.
