This weekend was the Foggy City 20th Anniversary Fly-In.

On Friday, Steve and I ate at Firewood then went to Castro Station. The Muni was still running slow from Thursday's outage, so we went upstairs and took the F-Line to the Ramada at Market & 8th. Damned orange Milano car. I love the F-line streetcars, but those Milano ones are the ugliest, loudest, most uncomfortable ones they have. At least it was a short ride.

It took us just seconds to pick up our registration packets. We milled around until dancing started at 7:30pm. The first tip took a bit of time for me to adjust my listening to Mike & Pat's calling. After that first tip, my ear adjusted fine. The evening's dancing was very fast-paced and high-energy. There were a few real cuties from out-of-town.

Afterwards, we went to catch Muni at Civic Center Station. It was a long wait. By the time the train came, there were probably more than a dozen dancers waiting. We got on the train with Mike, Steven, David, and birthday boy Jeff. Steve and I got home around 11:30pm. It made for a long day.

On Saturday, dancing was to start at 9am. That made for an early start. We took the F-line down and walked in right at 9am. Only a few dancers were in the hall, along with caller Pat Carnathan. We had to wait until 9:20am for enough dancers to start. All weekend, they called at Plus level. Only one person registered for the convention at Mainstream level, but he is just a few weeks shy of completing their Plus class and kept up pretty well.

We stuck around at lunchtime and went with a group over to Steven's Cafe, across from the Ramada. Not sure why Steve and I haven't eaten there before. It's just a greasy spoon, but the location is good. We find a lack of restaurants in that general area.

From 2-3pm, we had "Intro to A1" with Pat Carnathan. John Bauder came to that session. Being a C2 dancer, he was funnily sarcastic throughout. He was my partner, and we had a lot of fun. Pat did some calls that I hadn't danced yet at past A1 intros. Steve left at 3pm to go home and nap. From 3-4pm, I danced the A1 Intro with Andy Shore. I requested for him to teach "Chain Reaction," which is the most complicated of the A1 calls. It's the one A1/A2 call where I knew I needed floor time. He taught it well, and I'm glad I asked for it.

I left at 4pm to go home. I relaxed and showered, then we drove back down to the Ramada just after 5pm. Cocktails and dinner from 5:30-7:30pm. It was good to socialize. Dinner was expensive and certainly didn't look worth the cost. However, it was VERY Atkins-friendly with lots of cold cuts and cheese. I certainly got enough to eat.

The evening's dancing was good. I like dancing with new people and finding out that they're good. It's also fun to flirt with new people. I bought some raffle tickets from George. He gives good raffle ticket. Not as good as me, alas, but worth the $5. Later, George handed the duty over to Jeff. Remind me to give him a couple beers before he does it next time. Almost G-rated. WTF? Paid off, though, as I won two raffles that evening. $50 to Yank Sing (great dim sum, but not Atkins-friendly), and free registration next March to San Diego's Pass The Sea fly-in. Cool.

Watched some of the C1 dancing. I rarely get to see that, so it was interesting to see so many formations with which I'm not familiar. Of particular interest was "Sausage Circulate." Sounds pretty sexual to me.

We went to the Lone Star afterwards. Gotta hug on J for awhile. Had a good time chatting with folks. We got home around 1:30am.

Got some good sleep. Woke up and Steve wanted to practice "Sausage Circulate." Gotta like that dedication. I like his styling. ;-)

Skipped church on Sunday. I made hamburgers for lunch, then we went to the Ramada to dance from 1-4pm. By the end, I was so tired. It was a lot of fun, though. Several hotel guests wandered into the ballroom throughout the weekend and watched us dance. They seemed fascinated. I'm sure they'll be talking about it when they get home to Dubuque.

Steve went out to the Eagle and Lone Star afterwards. I just caught Muni home. I watched some TV and napped. Steve got home at 9pm, and we watched more TV before heading to bed. A full weekend of dancing wore me out!
