In the afternoon, I went to the Container Store. I decided that the wire baskets that either hang from a stand or wall unit would suffice. I bought one just to check. They can get to be expensive, but they're modular and allow for a variety of use. I also got a chain link with clips for the shower that will hold use wash cloths out of the way. I took the Mission Street #14 bus to 16th Street. The 16th Street bus stop was under construction, so I had to walk a couple blocks away to catch the #33 bus. The #33 that I boarded was only going to 18th & Castro, so that was a bad idea. Oh well, new experiences are good.
I got home and there was a note on my doorbell for Sears to ring #82 for Arthur. Guess they hadn't delivered the washer/dryer yet. I got in and put my purchases away. The Sears guys then arrived, and Arthur came in to handle things. I chatted with him briefly then went downstairs. Arthur came down after awhile to let me know they had finished. Woohoo! I mentioned to him that he still needed to empty one of the downstairs closets. He did that right away (there wasn't too much in it). I was able to move in lots of boxes that I had put downstairs, getting rid of lots of clutter. I'm nearly all unpacked now!
I went upstairs and put in a load of laundry. No problemo. The new equipment is Kenmore, just like before, and almost identical. Probably the same model, just updated by a couple decades.
I put some t-shirts in the wire basket I had purchased. Looks like 14 can fit fine. The unit can hold 10 drawers, so that takes care most of the shirts. Guess I'll get two units, and get mostly narrow drawers, but a couple deeper drawers for sweatshirts. That should work fine.
I went to Cliff's to get a 5-6' board for the laundry room shelf. They had only one 6' board, and that was cracked. Guess I'll have to wait for Steve to drive me somewhere to get one, or maybe I'll just get some wire shelving. I should make a trip to Bed Bath & Beyond to check out what they have as well.
I chatted online with Dan from Vermont for awhile. I only recently discovered him online after a 3-year hiatus. Now that I've moved, he's been visiting Kansas City. He's dumped the Epicopaleans and is now involved with Latter Day Saints. The dyslexia in me wants to refer to them as LSD. Makes more sense that way.
I went to Western Star for square dancing. For the first tip, I danced the boy part. That was hard for me. I screwed up a lot, not just on the things I knew were tough, but on the simple moves of promenading the partner home and Weave the Ring. Ron called some weird stuff as it was, so my brain didn't want to handle it. After sitting out the next tip due to the number of dancers, I switched back to girl. Ron continued to call weird stuff, and very slow and confusing at that. It was painful. Even board members were grumbling very loudly that it was no fun. We had 15 dancers most of the night. At one time, 7 of the dancers tried to dance with a phantom and had horrible results. Even after they gave up, the rest of the evening's dancing was painful. Ron acknowledged that he needed to speed up, but he didn't. Some of these poor people are going to be in for a rude awakening at convention.
After dancing, I went to Starbucks with Joe, Bob, David (from my FCD class), Steve S., and Matt. Joe has agreed to give me a ride home on Sunday (since Double-0-Steven has to leave early Sunday morning for his Eck poetry reading in Pleasanton). On the way to coffee, I saw Tim, that guy who had been to FCD's club night last Thursday. Woof. He recognized me and said hello. Hopefully he'll be out tonight.
Foggy City is having free Intro nights on July 15th, 22nd, and 29th. I've forwarded the details to the MCC Men's group and to Schwab's GLOBES group as possible functions. I'll mention it to the new BOSF activities coordinator elected in June. Wanna check out why I like gay square dancing so much? Come on out to one of those nights in July. Any one of the nights is fine (each night is basically the same program). Class is from 7:30-9:30pm at the Diamond Senior Center (basement of Friend's School), across the street from Most Holy Redeemer. Address is 117 Diamond.
I got home and moved a load from the washer to the dryer and put the dry clothes away. Having laundry equipment within the unit is fabulous. No more squirreling away quarters!
I didn't have a headache this morning, so I guess there may be something to my carpet theory. Punny Steve called it carpet-tunnel syndrome. He either cracks me up or makes me groan. Sometimes making me groan is a helluva lot of fun. Wanna check for yourself?
I did take some Claritin yesterday to see if that works. I'll continue it for a few more days. As I was going to Walgreens to get some yesterday, some people were handing out $2-off coupons for it. Good timing. It did seem to give me a runny nose. Still have one this morning.
There was a great email this morning from a guy in Denmark. In the mid-80's, I used to subscribe to Harper's Magazine just to read the Harper's Index each month. One statistic that I remember (although the actual numbers may be remembered incorrectly) is: "Average testicle weight of a man in China: 0.4 grams. Average testicle weight of a man in Denmark: 4.0 grams." From that, I deduced that Danes must have the biggest balls. I've always wanted to check for myself. The closest I got to going to Denmark was when I was in Germany. I had proposed to Darlene and checked out one of the 3-day marriage travel packages that were offered. Alas, Darlene decided she was too Catholic for a sham marriage. Maybe I was just attracted to her last name: Behr.
As I walked down 18th, there were a few people waiting at the #33 bus stop. I decided to try that route to work. Well, that made for a 45-minute commute without a stop for coffee. Usually it's a 30-minute commute, including the Starbucks stop. Guess I'll stick to the subway. The extra walking is good for me. I really need to do more of it. I did pull out the Pilates DVD today and go through that. That type of exercise does work for me, strengthening back muscles at least.
Not sure what today will hold. Looks sunny. Steve is coming up tonight for dancing. Tuesday's class is great, and tonight the class learns the last two moves. We're planning to use the hot tub for the first time after dancing tonight. I'd like to use it often, I've just been waiting for Steve so we could enjoy the first time together. I'll have to remember to take a candle out there.
