About 1pm on Friday, I called to confirm my 3pm appointment with the junk guys. He had accidentally moved my appointment to a week later, so it was good that I called. I'd have been very upset. Left work early to finish up the day at home. The junk guys were a bit late, but called several times on their status. They were at the place about 30 minutes and got rid of the old fridge, washer/dryer, broken computer monitor, and my tv stand.
I worked around the house on Friday night. I considered going out, but I was too tired. Steve arrived a bit after 10pm, so I'm glad I didn't go out. We watched some TV, then crashed. He had to be up at 7am to get ready to be at his Eckankar seminar by 9am.
On Saturday, I went to Cliff's for some hardware. I put up a new shelf in the den for CD's. I also removed one shelf in Steve's closet in order to make room for two closet rods. I watched a bunch of BBC America shows. Later in the day, I walked to the Lone Star. What a beautiful day. The afternoon turned into evening, then a blur. I wish beer was on Atkins. Rum totally knocks me on my butt. Gotta switch to water this week.
Went to church on Sunday, and the sermon was long. It was "Assumption of Mary" day or some such Catholic day. Just like everything else in the Castro, it was all about Mary. The redeeming part was that the first song was "Hail Holy Queen," the hymn sung in Sister Act. I'm surprised no one jazzed it up. The song went through my head all day.
I left after the sermon in order to meet up with Steve. I got home a few minutes before he got there. We went to lunch at Firewood, then came back and he tried to nap for a bit. I watched some show about Hitler on the History Channel. I had a hard time believing that there was a commercial for National Cremation during that show. Both amusing and disturbing.
We got to Jim's going-away party at Kim & Bennet's house in Sunnyvale around 4pm. There were over 40 people there, so it was a very good turnout. At one point, we went out to the front yard and square danced. It would be Jim's last chance to dance for awhile. This seemed to really pique the neighbors' curiousity. Several watched from their yards, and a couple came over to watch. I'm sure some were thinking, so THAT'S what gay people do!! The party was a good one. Jim made a speech, and he was bawling by the time it was done. He had me in tears, too. It was tough to say goodbye to him. I can't imagine what it's going to be like for him to say goodbye to his lover, Michael, tomorrow before his flight. When we left, he said that I'm the best square dancer he's seen. I said I'm a good learner, and he said, "No, best dancer." Sweet to the end.
Spoke to Curtis for awhile at the party. He's friends with
