Mother's Day revisited
May. 12th, 2003 01:25 pmYesterday was Mother's Day and I made no mention of my mother. If you didn't know, my mother, Ruth Marie Zielsdorf Young, died of leukemia in 1977 at age 42 when I was 14. That was a long time ago.
One thing that I remember about my mother is that she had to have her coffee. If we were out doing errands with a couple of us kids, she'd stop at McDonalds. One of us would go in to get her a 10-cent cup of coffee, or else we'd all go in and watch her drink the coffee. Begging for something would work less than half the time. We knew the drill. She didn't spoil us.
I'm sure my life would be much different if she were still alive. Everything happens for a reason, though, and I'm lucky to have known her for that brief time.
