ICF mailing rant
Jan. 12th, 2005 08:40 amOkay, so I got clarification that BOSF is the group that gave away my mailing address to ICF.
The board of Bears of San Francisco decided to have BOSF become a part of ICF. ICF is a motorcyle club, whose bylaws clearly state that the club's purpose is to promote motorcycle safety. To increase their own funding, they've asked other local clubs to become members.
Nothing wrong with a club devoted to promoting motorcycle safety. But that's not the purpose of a bear club. (I pointed this out when I was on the BOSF board, and we voted against ICF membership at the time.) The current board has deemed otherwise, and has decided to give out my mailing address to them.

Date: 2005-01-12 05:13 pm (UTC)I also get other mailings from time to time from strange places I've never heard of, but all have the same mis-spelling of my mailing address that is on file with BOSF. Obvious where my name came from.
It pisses me off.

Date: 2005-01-12 07:02 pm (UTC)I think BOSF was wrong in releasing personal information. Further, just as financial institutions have to disclose their privacy policies, the BOSF should have been just as sensitive with the information of its members. We don't live in Mayberry anymore. Just yesterday my e-mail got hacked (and it has happened before) and it was a bitch to fix, but I got it done.
I guess what I'm getting at is that there is a lawsuit or at least an injunction that needs to be made against BOSF for its actions. This is a violation of your right to give out your information.
