Finally got the IKEA stamp on my gay card
May. 11th, 2003 08:30 amArthur came over several times on Friday. He determined that the washing machine needed to be replaced. It was in the house when he moved in 14 years ago, so who knows how old it is. He'll be replacing the dryer, too. On Monday. Super fast. As a landlord, he's getting kudos from me so far! He showed me how to use the hot tub, which is pretty straight forward. He'll show me about watering the garden in a few weeks before he goes out-of-town.
Steve came over Friday evening, and we went to Leticia's for dinner. After that, we stopped at Best Buy to look at TV stands. None looked good, or were too big. We did get Linksys wireless router stuff while there.
Came home, played Scrabble, and watched some TV. I was exhausted and crashed around 11pm. I woke up on Saturday with a sinus headache and my nose stuffed up. The nose cleared after an hour or so, but the headache remained for a few hours. I set up my computer on the Linksys router. Not much problem. We decided to go to IKEA to look for a TV stand and some drawers to put my drawers. And socks. This was the first trip to IKEA for both Steve and me. We got there around 11:45am and it was packed. The store was pretty overwhelming. We looked around for an hour, then got some of their obligatory Swedish meatballs for lunch. We shopped for a couple more hours. That was too much. Neither of us like to shop, but the store was so damned big and we did have stuff to get. We ran into John and Michael and one of their friends that we see at the LS but don't know his name. We finally left a bit after 3pm with a new TV stand, a 3-drawer cabinet, a lampshade, and a 99-cent toilet brush.
We got home, and Steve took a nap. I assembled the TV stand. It was the easiest piece of furniture I've ever assembled. I guess that's one reason that IKEA is popular. I don't think the stand looks that great in the den, but it DOES fit into the recess, which is exactly what we needed. The open areas on the back of the stand do make it great for wiring. Got the TV, cable box and VCR transferred to the new stand and drug the old stand to the living room for now. The old one is really heavy. I'm not sure how I'll get it downstairs. I may have to disassemble it.
For dinner, we went to Osaka. I had salmon teriyaki and shu-mai. The salmon teriyaki was much better there than at that place in San Carlos. We stopped at Cala on the way home to get Steve some Krispy Kreme donuts for breakfast. We came home and we hooked up Steve's notebook computer to the Linksys router. That was a piece of cake. I was really surprised at how easy it was. The wireless signal works fine from downstairs to upstairs, so he's all set. Now we just have to wait for him to move up his other computer and get that hooked up, too.
The KFOG fireworks took place between 9 & 9:30pm. We got a good view of them from our bedroom window. After about 10 minutes, the guests at Arthur's party upstairs noticed them too, and were all oohs and ahs out on his deck. We could definitely hear the noise of the party downstairs, but it wasn't too obnoxious. I'm just worried about how loud my piano is going to sound.
We played Scrabble, then we watched a tape Steve made this week of Smallville. I fell asleep while watching. I've just been really tired lately.
Got up around 6am this morning. I woke up with another sinus headache. My nose wasn't clogged, but it was hard to open my eyes. I'm afraid that there might be something in the house to which I'm allergic. Right now we're sleeping on my mattress which is just sitting on the floor. Maybe we're too near the carpet and whatever cleaning products they used last week.
After taking some Excedrin, I made coffee, got the paper then hooked up the DVD player. I continued to assemble the 3-drawer unit, but the next step calls for hammering. I'll wait until later in the morning so as to not be too noisy this early.
I checked my email and got a "weekly update" from Junior's website. He uses MSN communities, which are no fun to navigate. There's a bunch of signing in, etc. He's added some pictures of his new "Playbed." It looks pretty functional for bondage. Pretty cool. He has a few different shots. Check out Playbed3. (Hope that link works for you. With all that damned MSN signing in, hope you can see it. Everything's pretty bondage-esque, but I cracked up on the Playbed3 picture. Several of his Barbies are shown displayed in the background. "Yeah, yeah, give it to me Daddy! Oh, and that Botswana Barbie is fabulous!"
Steve is off to his Eck service this morning. Being Mother's Day, MCC is having some guest speakers (plus Penny is out recovering from foot surgery). Having no mother of my own, I think I'll be skipping today's service. I have lots to do around here still. With all those hours at IKEA, I didn't get much chance yesterday to finish unpacking.
We've still not figured out what to do for our birthday. Right now we're talking about doing a birthday PRE-house warming party. Without Steve's furniture, this place is pretty empty. Gotta figure out something soon and send out e-vites. It'll most likely be on our birthday, Friday, May 30th. Singing, some card/board games, a hot tub and munchies. Guests will have to deal with the fact that there's no furniture! :-)
