Monday & Tuesday square dancing
Aug. 11th, 2004 07:58 amOn Monday my brain was still reeling from Sunday's C2 dance, but I needed to abuse it some more. So I'm an addict. People in AA go to 12-step programs. I heard that square dancers go to two-step programs. **groan**
Larry & Don gave me a ride to Topcats. They couldn't use their usual venue, so Betsy found some spot in San Jose right near the airport. Smaller than usual, but so was the crowd. There was an A2 class going on next door. We snagged a couple C1(?) dancers for a couple of tips in order to make three squares. Otherwise, we danced with two squares.
Dancing was good. After Sunday's workout, some of it was a breeze. John did call some things from unusual setups that just went over my head. I made mental notes on a few of the calls so that I could figure them out later, but by the night's end, there were too many and I can't remember a single one. My brain gave out around 9:15pm anyhow. The floortime was good, and I had fun. John is comfortable poking fun at me, which I enjoy.
Tuesday was FCD's first day of the Mainstream class. Really big turnout. Yay! Except for three or four people, everyone else had been to at least one Intro. Harlan whizzed through the calls. There was one brand new person who seemed to not "get it," but everyone else seemed to do exceptionally well. Besides calls that Harlan taught during the Intros, he also taught "Boys Run" and "Swing Thru." I've never seen those calls taught so early. (Then again, I've only seen 5-6 different MS classes in my 20 months of dancing.) Harlan is great at sizing up the floor and stretching their abilities.
After class, Harlan called an angel tip. It was Plus level, but with three C2 dancers, two C1 dancers, one A2 dancer, and two Plus dancers in the square. He called C1 for heads, and added some higher-than-Plus things for the sides. It was a lot of fun.
tardis was in the square and kept up just fine. Hopefully he'll go to the Advanced class in October. You can tell he'd do fine.
