Enjoying grocery shopping
Aug. 1st, 2009 11:28 amWhile Steve was on the phone this morning, I hopped the #33 bus to the Potrero Safeway. The musclebear daddy bartender with the Droopy Dawg moustache boarded at 18th & Castro, providing pleasant scenery outbound. Nice.
When I disembarked at the grocery store, the NextBus sign posted an inbound bus in 24 minutes. I had watched enough of that show Supermarket Sweep to do some speed shopping. With just my backpack, I know to not use a shopping cart. If it doesn't fit in a handbasket, it will be too much to carry home. Everything fit in my backpacket. Barely. Nice.
I made it out to the bus stop about 30 seconds before the bus pulled up. Nice.
On the way home, I enjoyed the painted buildings and vibrancy of the Mission. Some man boarded at the BART station entrance. He was pretty animated. He struck up a conversation with a woman who had a service dog. He spoke perfect English in a thick, Latin American accent. He told the woman that he could be her service dog. Then he barked. He was outgoing enough to pull it off. He then told her he was living in a shelter, so he couldn't have a dog. He said that he was here due to politcal asylum. Just another interesting character.
Nice. Really. I love my City.

Cable fixed, sorta
Aug. 1st, 2009 06:23 pmThe cable guy was familiar with my problem. He's been seeing it a lot lately. Turns out that Comcast's switch from analog to digital for some channels is incompatible with my TiVo's dual tuner. The cable guy switched it so the cable now goes through the cable box to the TiVo box to the TV. The missing channels now show up. However, I can no longer watch one channel while recording on another. I can no longer record two shows at the same time. This bites.
One workaround is to buy a TiVo 3 box for about $199. (We currently have TiVo 2.) With the TiVo 3, we'd lose the Comcast's OnDemand feature. (We rarely use it, but sheesh.)
