getting a leg up
Oct. 4th, 2007 09:32 amLast evening and last night were very painful. I didn't sleep well, even with Ambien and Vicodin. I got up to take more Vicodin at 7am.
I washed the wound today. It was my first good look at it. I was expected something wider, but it was like a deep knife slit. One part was open, but most was closed. I felt better about it after seeing it, and I'm more confident that it will heal sooner than I was expecting yesterday. We still have large gauze pads from Steve's shoulder injury, and those are the perfect size for my wound.
Atrophy has really set in. My right calf is now half the size of the left one. (Half caff, de-caff -- whatever.)
A lot of the discomfort comes from the boot itself. The cast was solid, so the weight distributed evenly. I could easily elevate my leg onto a chair, bench, shoulder -- whatever. The boot has a hard bottom and hard plastic strips on the side; however, the back is just foam. My injury is in the back of the shin, so I can't just prop up my leg on any ol' shoulder without hurting myself.
The pain and dashed expectations made me really cranky yesterday. I still have pain today, but I think my expectations are better. Hopefully that means less cranky and more smiley. :-)
