Glad to be done with a dance for a change
Mar. 6th, 2005 06:24 pmToday was my turn to coordinate the Saundra Bryant dance at Midnight Squares. Most of the basic stuff is arranged with the caller by Gary D. ahead of time. This dance was done in conjunction with Michael L.'s dance last night, so he also took care of a bunch of it (arranging a place to stay for the caller, rides to/from the airport, etc.). I figured Michael would bring some of his leftover cake today, and he did! Plenty of refreshments. Basically, all I had to do was set up, take money, make announcements and order pizza. Who knew that ordering pizza could be so stressful?
The pizzas arrived RIGHT ON TIME. Yay! But there were only 8 slices per pizza instead of 12. My bad. 50 people, and 80 slices of pizza. Sounds like it won't work. I order 4 more pizzas. Time goes on, and the four pizzas haven't arrived, but there still a lot of pizza left. WTF? The pizza guy shows up with only one pizza instead of four. He screwed up. Ha! Fine, I only want one pizza. Cancel the others. Yay! There is a God. At the end, there was one piece of pizza left for me to take home for dinner.
Whew!
I danced one tip during the first half. I was stressed enough, and then I find out that Elinor is in my square. We made only one sequence the entire tip. She's been messing with my friends lately, so I paid her back with some really strong yanks & pulls when she was going the wrong way. That part relieved some stress, but I did feel a bit guilty afterwards. She gave me a special thanks afterwards. B.
The second half of the dance was less stressful now that the pizza was taken care of. It was the typical fun time at C2/C3A that this club has. Dave D. showed up, and he added some additional energy to C2, along with the fun that Jordan brings. At one point, Sandie said "they all get hard eventually." I guess she forgot momentarily that we take things out of context. Jordan just walked over and gave her "a look." Priceless. Woody was the only female dancer during the second half. When Sandie said, "It's magic, Woody," I probably shouldn't have said, "A magic woody? That's what I've been looking for."
I danced some tips fine, but I also had my share of mistakes. Live and learn. Then Sandie pulled out an "Initially Cross Concentric Recoil." Oh. Guess I'll have to bone up on stacked concepts "Initially Cross Concentric." I found the spot, but my brain certainly didn't work fast enough. That'll have to be a "learn on its own" thing. This stuff is kinda geeky.
Other club members kicked in to help, especially with cleanup. My
double_ohsteven helped me bunches today. I'm a lucky guy!
