Off to picnic at Angel Island
Aug. 21st, 2004 08:13 amSlept okay. I woke up a few times and couldn't open either eye. Some was from ointment, the "good" eye was just tired, I suppose.
The alarm went off at 6:25am, and I dashed around. We never made it to Safeway yesterday as planned, so I showered and got dressed in a jiffy. New ointment in the eye didn't cause tears today. Yay! I put on some coffee, grabbed my backpack and headed out to walk to Safeway. (Can't drive with the Vicodin.) Didn't know whether the subway would come before I could walk the distance, so I just walked. The streetcar arrived at 17th as I was passing, but did not pull up to the stop, so I continued walking. Got a block away from Safeway, and the streetcar zoomed by me, naturally.
Grabbed a submarine sandwich for our lunch and some cupcakes, ding dongs and ho ho's to share. Back on Market Street, there was no streetcar in sight, so I crossed the road. Made it to the far end of the intersection and the streetcar roared by. Always the case. I had allowed myself time to walk, but I needed to do it at a brisk pace.
My morning meds and Vicodin didn't seem to be cooperating. I was pretty sure that the nausea would end by the time I got home. Got three blocks away from home and realized that I was carrying two bags of groceries with an empty backpack on my back. D'oh! Yes, the Vicodin obviously was working. Put the stuff in my backpack and made it home.
Woke up Steve so he could get ready. Made him coffee and I rushed to get things ready to go. He was baffled by my morning-person-ness. The Vicodin makes me loopy, but it briefly gives me a burst of energy. I had a cheese danish, and the nausea went away.
Everything's packed. Just waiting for Steve to finish showering, then we're off to catch Muni to Embarcadero and then the F-line to Pier 39. Catching the 9:45 ferry at Pier 41 for a day at Angel Island with about a dozen guys from the WSD square dance club. It's overcast now, but hopefully it'll clear up in a bit.
