Got my ECR Badge
Jun. 26th, 2003 08:55 amThey were showing Steve's house yesterday afternoon, so he waited up in the City for me to get off work. We then drove to Redwood City and I picked up a black western shirt for the FCD photo at convention. We also got some scarf pulls. The shirt is a bit small, but they didn't have my size. I can suck it in for a couple minutes for a photo. We explained to the woman at the store that it was for the photo for a square dance convention. She mentioned that she was at the (gay) rodeo this weekend and saw the square dance demo. Kewl. She was quite friendly. I mentioned it to Roz later, and she knew whom I talking about and said the woman said she might come to the club to dance.
Next door to that store was the Eck Center, so Steve took me and showed me around. John was working, whom I've met before. Decent facilities.
We went to Costco and I picked up some new luggage. The wheels on my old suitcase no longer work. My other carryon bag was ridiculously small, probably holding less than my backpack. Now I have a large suitcase I can check, and a decent sized (FAA approved) carry on bag/suitcase.
We ate dinner at Harry's Hoffbrau. The menu was not German in the least. To make things easier, I ordered a turkey sandwich, then chucked the bread. Got some sauteed mushrooms and small Caesar salad. For not having lunch, that filled me up. I also had iced tea. My first caffeine since June 8th. I had three large glasses of it. It did perk me up. I didn't sleep as well, but at least the caffeine gave me a boost for dancing.
Dancing at ECR was pretty good. Andy is such a great caller. One of the songs he sang was the same one Peggy had sang either the night or week previously. Could hardly tell they were the same song. I'm looking forward to hearing him every week at FCD mainstream class. I noticed that Bruce had a dangle with Andy's picture on it. Too funny. Apparently Andy was given some, so he passed them out to some people a few weeks ago when I was gone. I asked if he had anymore, but he didn't. I did get my El Camino Reelers badge. Woohoo! It's my favorite club, and they have the best badges. I had paid the extra $3 for a permanent magnet, but the company screwed up. They charged me for it, but didn't give it to me. Grrrrr. Oh well, I can stick with a pin until they rectify it.
Not wanting to go back to the heat of Steve's "country house" in San Carlos, we headed back to the "City house" for the night. It was indeed much cooler in the City. (When we drove past Hillsdale at 10pm, the temp read 79 degrees.) Watched some TV, then went to bed at 11:30pm. The caffeine kept me up for a bit. I woke up at 4am and tossed and turned. I went down and checked email. On my way back up, I saw the orange cat from next door. I greeted it and headed upstairs. We left the sliding glass door open and used the screen door. I got into bed and noticed the cat staring through the screen. Guess it's getting less skittish.
Another hot day today. It's going to be a busy one with work. I need to get my haircut, hopefully beating tomorrow's rush. It should get me through both Pride and Convention.
F is coming to town on Monday. Steve told him he could stay with us. He'll have to stay on the couch. With a busy weekend, not much time to prepare for a houseguest. Grrrrrrr.
