IBR - Thursday/Friday highlights
Feb. 15th, 2004 12:05 pmDecided to get away from IBR for a bit today and come home. Needed some piano time to relax.
I've been having a good time at IBR so far. I'll just blog a couple highlights.
Thursday after the C1 class, I got to the hotel and worked on getting my checklists and things ready for the four events for which I was in charge. That took about an hour or so, then I headed over to the Lone Star around midnight. Fun crowd, even though I was sticking to water.
Friday got up to get the Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz trips going. An extra bus showed up early in error, but that worked to our advantage in getting people there. Things seemed to go smoothly. I enjoy greeting these guys on Friday morning before registration begins. A lot remember me throughout the weekend and stop me to chat or ask questions.
Worked registration from 6-8pm. I worked with
henare in the T-Z line. They really shouldn't have two very efficient guys working together, as our line was way quicker than others. Ok people, learn to read names upside down so that you don't spend half the time flipping the book back and forth. I'll suggest that they print the names a second time, but upside down to make it easier on the volunteers.
Spent some time at the Meet & Greet, but that got boring quick. I went to the Lone Star and Steve went to the Eagle. I drank beer for the first time in a month. Much funner at the bar with beer.
Saturday got the SF City Tour going. My volunteer called in and couldn't make it. It was pretty easy to rope in a couple others to volunteer.
Steve's Squares For Bears was a really great success. I'm not sure how many attended, but I think maybe about 8 squares at the busiest point. Lots of angels showed up to help, and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Some guy from Alaska has been dancing at straight square dance clubs for 20-30 years. He never knew there were gay square dance clubs. He said he was going to go back home and start a gay club there. I would say that equates to success.
After square dancing, I was done with my 4 committee duties and my other 3 volunteer duties. Yeah!
