Headaches

I had to leave work sick yesterday. These caffeine withdrawals are giving me some of the worst headaches EVER. I just rested. Got up and did some work for a bit, but mostly rested. No sleep, just rest.

Steve came up around 4:30pm. He checked his emails, then he made dinner around 6pm. Steve has gone off Atkins already, but I'm sticking with it. He's agreed to make me Atkins meals. He made salmon croquettes. He saw that pork rinds were acceptable during the induction phase, so he picked some up to crush and make a breading with them. Very ingenious. Also had some bok choy. Mmmmmm. Good dinner.

I went to square dancing, even with my headache. It was "graduation" night for my Plus class. Nothing big for graduation. Got a diploma and they had cake. Being on Atkins, I skipped that. My craving for sweets has diminished already.

Bruce was there at dancing. He asked how I liked Western Star. I told him I didn't. I explained that they don't send emails, update their webpage, etc. He laughed and said that they weren't up on things like that. Well, it's pretty standard practice these days. Not very laughable to me. Bruce is one of the ones who told me NOT to go to Plus class. Seems like it was a Western Star conspiracy.

Got home and we watched "Last Comic Standing." I went to bed at 11pm. I slept fitfully. My headache still remains, although it's not so intense this morning. I decided to not go down to ECR to dance tonight. With my headache, I need a night off. I'll probably just crash.

Maybe you're a bit too hard on yourself, cutting sweets AND caffein. Looks like you're dealing with no sweet pretty well. Not so as far as caffein is concerned. Why don't you cut on it progressively (one or two coffees per day down to zero)? The transition would be less violent, and you would probably end up not very far from where you want to be the way you do. Just a thought.

Low Carbing and No-No Caffeine

I know all about caffeine withdrawals and low carb. I've been doing it for years and have recently started back on the low carb eating path. If you need some help, let me know. Back in 96-97, I went on the atkins diet for about 9 months. I started at 320 pounds - HUGE! - and got down to 195. It works, just as long as you work the diet.

You don't have to go off caffeine totally. I did that at first, was an awful 2 days - until I took a Tylenol. You'll be amazed at how much that helps. Now I just have some caffeine.

If you want to trade cooking hints, I have lots. I have found loads of ways to avoid carbs, but still have good food. Jello Pudding makes a sugar free version that's really good -- just use 1-cup of whipping cream (NOT baker's cream) and a cup of water in place of the milk. It's delish!

If you want some other things like that, I have lots. Oh and you might want to watch your salt intake - it makes me bloat (perhaps it's just PMS :-) ).

My biggest weakness in doing the LC thing is the Apple Fritter withdrawals. GOD I love those things.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely have to try that pudding thing. Next time, I'll try to step down the caffeine gradually. I just wanted it out of my system quickly and paid the price. The headaches are now gone. Whew!
