Liver worst

I hated liver as a kid. Of course, my mother made me eat it, not like wussy parents today. At least she let me use ketchup.

Steve made calf's liver tonight for dinner. It was the best liver I've ever had. Turns out that I still hate it. Instead of ketcup, I ended up using Sriracha. It worked better than ketchup, but it still didn't mask the taste.

I have fond memories of being literally the starving art student. A wealthy client (I was designing a sweater for him) took me to dinner, and I asked the waitress what she recommended for someone with a big appetite. "Without question, the pan-fried liver" was her reply: Garlic toast, salad, and a couple slabs of liver covered with fried onions.

Let's just say, I discovered I liked liver that evening. I do appreciate that it's not for everyone.

That's #1 in my "humans shouldn't be made to eat this" foods. I can't get it past my lips. I still have memories of sitting at the kitchen table for 5 hours with a plate of liver 'n onions in front of me when I was age 6, my father swearing at me the whole time that if I didn't eat it, I'd get spanked.

Atrocious food #2: Pickled beets. Makes me gag thinking about it.

Those are good ones, Bill. Hit the trifecta by adding lima beans (gag). And I'll eats lots and lots of things, but that dinner would be hellish.

And guess who likes liver and pickled beets. A lot. Danny! If I go out of town, he'll cook up liver or lamb (another thing that I can't eat unless it's in gyros) then air the house out! ;-)
