Different Strokes for Different Folks

Based on a co-worker's recommendation, I read the book My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor. It's an autobiographical account of a brain scientist who has a stroke. (I borrowed the book from the library.)

The author details what it was like having the stroke and her journey to recover. It's a good book to let you know how to tell if you or someone else is having a stroke. It's also an excellent introduction to the difference between right and left brain activity. The book lets you know how to behave around stroke victims, which I've found handy for my job.

The book is short, and is a very easy read. If you skip the last few chapters, you're not missing much. If nothing else, read chapter 4.

I saw her on the Today show some months back. She seems to have completely recovered from that stroke.

Sounds interesting! I've put a hold on it at my library.

She also did one of the TED lectures:

Amen! I listened to her story as an audiobook as part of my cochlear implant self-training. Nothing like being completely immersed in her experience of stroke and recovery to make me grateful for my own health and sanity.
