Indian Cultural Awareness
Nov. 6th, 2003 10:31 amNext Wednesday, I'm signed up at work to go to "Indian Cultural Awareness" training. Knowing very little about Indian culture, it should be interesting.
I googled some articles about gays in India, and became more "aware." Just recently, the Indian government argued before the Delhi High Court that "Indian society is intolerant to the practice of homosexuals/lesbianism." Homosexuals can be imprisoned for life, or a term that may extend to 10 years. (So life expectancy in Indian prison is less that 10 years?)
This angers me even more about offshoring to India. The phrase "Indian society is intolerant" certainly sounds like a cultural awareness issue. I'll be sure to bring it up at the training next Wednesday.
