Flighty

It was nice to leave Phoenix. I had been thinking the weekend would be encapsulated inside the hotel. I didn't realize there'd be walking outside between dance halls and a long outside walk to our room. Um, it's hot in Phoenix.

One of the main reasons I moved to SF was the weather. I stand by that decision. I love my City.

We dropped off the car with no incident. Besides a trip to get my haircut, we only used the car to get to-from the airport. Still cheaper than a taxi. I didn't even need to put more gas in the car. Cool.

Check-in at Southwest went fairly quickly. The counter guy admitted that all 4 people working the counter were Family, so that's why it was moving so quickly. We are an efficient people.

We had time at the airport for a sitdown lunch. Our inbound equipment ended up being 20 minutes late, but the turnover was very quick, and the plane departed only 10 minutes late. We were in the air within 5 minutes, and we got to Oakland on time.

We arrived at a newer gate at terminal 2. That airport is looking a lot different. The baggage claim seems much smaller. It was overcrowded with people wandering around. Very poor signage. No one knew which carousel to get bags until the bags started unloading. We had to wait 30 minutes for our bags to show up. Aha. Same people who lost our bags on the outbound trip.

Now that Southwest flies out of SFO starting this weekend, hopefully I can avoid the Oakland airport if I ever have checked bags.

Got home, unpacked, and did laundry. Now ready to seize the week.

It's never really as bad as it sounds. Oakland is a smallish airport going through growing pains. I always preferred that or San Jose airports to SFO.

Our flight to SJC was delayed leaving. The plane was completely full, and there was still a guy with a ticket who didn't have a seat! They printed out a list & went through the entire airplane checking people's names against the list, and it still didn't result in a seat. I really don't understand what could have happened. So, we were late leaving, but that was the extent of our problems.

Yeah, Oakland sucks for baggage claim.

Every single United flight out of Phoenix was delayed. They claim bad weather in Chicago had a domino effect throughout the system. Our plane was on time but there was no crew to staff it. We finally departed about 50 minutes late but made up so time so we arrived only 30 minutes late. What really pissed me off was the ticket counter staff making snide comments about how the passengers were in such a rush to board the plane. Well duh! You always tell the passengers they need to board as quickly as possible to have a timely departure. And now you've already made us late! What do you expect?
