Aug. 28th, 2003 10:20 amWent home sick on Tuesday afternoon and was out yesterday, too, due to stomach flu. Details at thisfriendlie post.
Tuesday night attended a Town Hall meeting with Governor Gray Davis. It was not too exciting, but did give me an opportunity to see and hear him in person. He's looks the same as on TV (his face resembles David Spade), but he appeared just a tad bit warmer. (Maybe up the temp from frozen to slightly defrosted.) I sat behind Mark Leno and Sharon Davis. She really has a good colorist. So does the governor's wife.
The governor mentioned a satellite photo of the blackout with part of the east coast dark, but California still lit. I emailed him today to let him know that Snopes exposes this as a fake photo. Oops.
The Town Hall was held at the CBS studios. I had never walked in that area before. It was near Battery & Broadway. Walking from Embarcadero Station, I encountered some of the wild parrots that inhabit SF. I also found that downtown Safeway that I didn't know existed. I need to further explore that part of town.
Afterwards, I got back to the Castro a bit after 9pm. A string quartet was playing in front of Cliff's. I love my City. I walked to the Diamond Senior Center and got in on the last square dance tip.
Since I was home on Wednesday, I helped Steve put up 19 pictures. Most of the pictures for upstairs are now in place. It's becoming quite "homey."
Woofy HB was supposed to come over at lunchtime, but didn't make it. Hopefully we'll be able to reschedule soon.
We went to Red Pepper in Palo Alto for dinner before square dancing. It was near ECR, so that was convenient. Food wasn't that special, but it was quick. Steve got me to the church on time. Good boy!
We danced some of the "old-time" dances. We did Pickle Up A Doodle and Running Bear, and a few other ones where I didn't hear the names. My first square kept screwing up one part of "Pickle," so we never made it through. We regrouped in different squares, and my new square made it through finally. It was interesting.
Later, I phantomed by myself in the back of the room during the A2 class. I managed to do nearly everything right. Rich Reel came up to me later and invited me to attend their A2 reviews on Tuesday nights. I was flattered. Unable to make Tuesday nights down there, I'll just wait to start A1 class in October. Having studied the A1/A2 calls, I know most of them really well, at least on paper. I still need floortime.
Afterwards, we stopped at Steve's to get his computer. They had painted the walls and put down new carpet. It looks good. They had lots of plants in the garage that they'll be using for staging. Steve kept walking past the potted palms saying "It's a jungle in here." Silly boy.
