I *AM* blonde
Aug. 20th, 2003 08:10 pmRemember a month or so ago when I told my landlord that my refrigerator was chirping, but it turned out to just be old batteries in the smoke detector? Well, I've had another blonde "refrigerator" moment, albeit a real problem.
Tonight I moved the refrigerator out of the way so that there'd be room for them to move Steve's furniture on Thursday. I guess I was a little more aggressive than when I moved it last week. I snapped the copper tubing to the ice maker. Water everywhere. I found the main shutoff valve in the downstairs unit. That shut off the water, so I knew it had to be the main valve for our neighbors upstairs as well. That means I need a plumber over tonight. I called Rob from upstairs, and he said he wouldn't be home for awhile. Neither would Ann, and he'd let her know.
Not having a hardcopy yellow pages, I searched the internet. (Wow, those yellow page ads would have come in handy. With the internet, I didn't think I'd need them.) Hard to find emergency plumbing service via the net. I called a half dozen places. No one available. I finally got ahold of Bay Area Plumbing, and Boris was out to the house in less than 45 minutes. He found a separate shut off valve for just the icemaker. Grrrrr. So THAT'S where it is. That cost $89.50. I'll get the icemaker tubing fixed AFTER Steve's furniture arrives. I'll call Boris again. He was very cute, with a thick Russian accent. I'll have to figure out how to throw out "каждое дрочить как он хочет."
I called Ann upstairs to let her know that I switched the main valve on again. Turns out it's just the main valve to MY apartment. Not sure why it's downstairs in the "other" unit. Had I known that, I would have delayed the plumber to the next day and saved $89.50. GRRRRRR.
