Following stripedtiger's lead, I went ahead and used Ubid this week. Hopefully I won't have the same FedEx problems that he did! My new laptop is on the truck and should be delivered to me this afternoon.

So should I download XP SP2 immediately?

I have XP coming my way here at work, that is the full install package to install on my current, newly upgraded box.

I have not downloaded XP SP2 yet, should before installing, but I do have a firewall and virus scan programs from McAfee on my machine as we speak so may be OK until it's downloaded and installed with eitehr Win98 or XP.

I hope you have decent luck with FedEx, I've had problems with UPS and XP. :-(

In the past I've bought desktops, laptops, drives, monitors, and assorted other sundries from Ubid without problems. The problem with my order was mainly Fedex's fault. The fact that Ubid doesnt have reshippment capability is downright odd but, although I'll never use them again, in the past they've been good to me..

SP2?? NOOOOOOO I would not do it. Sad when they put a product out that will not work with other products they put out.

My comps have been smooth as scotch, and I have a fair amount of M$ producted gooping up my hard drives. General concensous seems to be that it works well enough, tho corporate users (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/09/02/sp2_glitches_study/) are more sensitive, and some say it doesn't go far enough (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/25/xpsp2_security_crater/)...

so far i'm not happy with SP2. things have been more of a pain in the ass since it came out. I wish I hadn't installed it
