I've got much to blog about from the various weekend events, but better first mention having to go to the emergency room.
Went to Andy's dance on Saturday night in Palo Alto, then we drove back to the City, getting back around 11:30pm. We parked in our neighborhood and decided to divide and conquer. Steve would go to the party at The Edge and would stay overnight at home. I'd go to the Lone Star and stay at the motel.
Had some brief visitors to the motel room, and I then fell asleep wearing my contacts. Always sucks to get contacts out the next morning when that happens. I got the left contact out fine. I had problems getting the right one out. I didn't realize that I had some lube on my finger. Oops. Not pleasant. I put in rewetting drops in my eye. I kept putting them in, but it didn't help. I then put some in the left eye as well, and it burned. WTF? Oh SHIT. Those weren't rewetting drops. It was the antifungal toe nail medicine. Bad vision sucks.
I rinsed my eye with contact solution and then put my eye under the shower for about 10 minutes. I then went to Walgreens to get more contact solution. I picked up some eye wash and an eye patch as well.
The eye wash did soothe things a bit, but obviously I would need to go to the doctor. I waited until Steve showed up. I was going to wait until after square dancing, but Steve wouldn't stop yelling at me. We first stopped at the onsite first aid booth, and Puptent Christopher took a look. Just told me to get to the emergency room earlier than later, since ER's tend to get busy on Sunday afternoons.
Caught a cab to the emergency room at California Pacific Medical Center on Buchanan at Sacramento. This was my fourth visit to their emergency room. Being in posh Pacific Heights, it's my hospital of choice. Only about 4 other people waiting. It took about 30 minutes before they saw me, and my eye really started to hurt.
From triage, they immediately took me back to start irrigating my eyes. My left eye wasn't too bad off, but since I had briefly put in drops, they treated it as well. First they put a drop of something in my eyes to dull the pain. They then put two plastic discs in my eyes that were connected to tubes with some kind of solution. That lasted about 30 minutes. They also gve me a couple of Vicodin. The pain seemed to increase until the Vicodin starting taking effect several minutes later.
The doctor said that there shouldn't be any permanent damage to my eye. She prescribed some more Vicodin for the pain, and some Erythromic ointment. It's the same ointment I used for my other queer eye problem that I had.
I took Muni back to Market and Van Ness. Stopped at Walgreens and waited to get my prescription filled. Made it back to the motel to find Hairrison going full tilt. Wow! What a crowd! I got to the room and found a teddy bear from Steve with a note saying that he'd be back at 3pm. I tried to rest for awhile, but the THUMP THUMP THUMP of the music right below my room didn't really allow for a nap. I put on sunglasses and a hat (the eye drops made my eyes sensitive to the sun) and went out on the balcony to watch the festivies.
jonbear8 hung out with me for awhile.
I saw Steve work his way through the crowd and up to the room around 2:30pm. Got hugs from him, then I tried to get in a couple more hours of rest.
So much for enjoying Hairrison. I could tell that it was a fabulous party. I was thrilled to see such a good turnout! And is was great to see the sun cooperate on Sunday after a dismal Saturday. Seeing naked men around the pool put me in a good mood, even though I was in pain. I spent most of the day in my room. I went with Steve to the Schnitzel Haus for dinner, then came back and spent most of the night in my room listening and watching the Olympics. I would have much rather spent the day enjoying Hairrison, but it wasn't meant to be.
I am really looking forward to being able to enjoy Hairrison next year.
Today my eye is bothering me a lot. I follow up with my eye doctor this afternoon. I woke up a couple times last night to find that I could even open the eye. It is draining "gunk," which sealed the eyelashes together. It is really ugly and gross. My vanity is more apparent than ever. Yes, Virginia, it IS because I'm ugly!

Date: 2004-08-16 07:25 pm (UTC)I felt so sorry for you when Steve told me what happened. And then finally you emerged so I stop sucking face and belly and went to visit you.
You might want to try brightly colored rubber bands wrapped around your eye medicine. I'm blind as a bat too without my contacts but you can feel and see the big thick color rubber bands around my eye drops.
Hope you enjoy your dark room. Let us know if you need any help.

Date: 2004-08-16 08:08 pm (UTC)A friend of mine once slept with his contacts in. When he awoke, he tried to take them out…and managed to pull off part of his cornea. Don't do that.
