The Zookeeper's Wife
May. 1st, 2011 08:21 pmBesides "May Day," my calendar says that it's Holocaust Remembrance Day.
I read another Large Print book this week called "The Zookeeper's Wife," by Diane Ackerman. It's a true story about the zoo in Warsaw being used as a temporary hideout for Jews during WWII. The story was fascinating, although I wasn't a fan of the writing style. On a light note, the zookeeper's son kept a honeybadger for a pet.
The story was as much about the Warsaw Underground as it was about the systemic destruction of the Warsaw Ghetto. It's tough to remember how bad some people had it.
