Death and taxes
Apr. 3rd, 2010 08:33 pmLast year's joint/non-joint tax filing was not fun. I've procrastinated doing taxes.
I finally did my federal single return today. (The federal fake joint return we'll do within the next week.)
I have a question about state tax refunds. Because I've been burned by owing too much to the state in past years, I have an extra $10 or so taken out of my check on payday so that I won't owe and scrounge for the money at tax time. But since I got a state refund, I've paid the state too much. And now I have to report last year's state refund on my federal return. So to avoid the federal penalty, I should underpay the state during the year?
