Potions help - pH and buffers
Oct. 7th, 2009 11:38 amI will be missing my Chemistry Lab next week. The teacher will let me submit as much of the lab as I can by this Thursday night. Without the actual lab, it's not entirely possible, but I'll try.
I suppose I'm looking for websites where I can glean clues so I can make some guesses on the labsheet.
One of the tests: In separate beakers of 100mL water, we are to dissolve aspirin, AlkaSeltzer, Tylenol, Bufferin, and Milk of Magnesia. Once dissolved, we are to pour 30mL of each solution into two other beakers. Test its pH. Then add strong acid HCl to one and strong base NaOH to the other. Logging the pH levels for each, we are to determine if the medicines are buffered or not. (Based on the fluctuation of the pH levels.)
Any ideas how to find this information?
