My husband is always coming up with cockamamie ideas. I've learned to appreciate that it's not a flaw, but a design feature.
Sometimes these ideas are painful to listen to. Can I get an Amen? And sometimes they are physically painful. Did you know that you can get a muscle strain from rolling your eyes? Neither did I. Ouch.
I'm someone who plays devil's advocate a LOT, and I often hesitate to venture my ideas because of fear of being shot down. Steve doesn't have this filter. He'd be great at a brainstorming session. I admire his constantrambling tenacity.
Fast forward to yesterday's hypothetical, which intrigued me:
We're married. We go to a state that doesn't recognize our marriage. Does that leave us available to marry someone there whom they do recognize? That would leave us each with two marriages. If we stay out of any of the equality states, does it count as bigamy? And if we return to California?
How about if we stay in the non-equality state and DOMA is repealed. Say both my spouses die in a horrible sushi accident. Do I get Social Security benefits from both spouses? (This last part is my own twist to Steve's cockamamie idea.)
