I'm stunned by the current prop 8 results. Guess we'll see if my Cymbalta works into overdrive today.

Thanks to everyone who got out and voted NO on 8, even when there were lines. Thanks to everyone who talked to friends and relatives about the issue. Thanks to all my wonderful friends, straight/gay/other, who contributed money to oppose prop 8, and special kudos to those of you not even in California. Special thanks to those who volunteered hours and hours to try to defeat prop 8.

I just spent a bus ride crying all the way to work.

Every morning, I walk down to the Castro and see the giant rainbow flag. It makes me smile. It was not the same during the months it was removed for the filming of Milk. I was so glad when it went back up.

This morning, the rainbow flag was at half-staff with a black strip of mourning hoisted above it. The tears just started. I love my City. The state, not so much.

I just saw the new zeppelin fly by. Lowest-priced tickets are $495, so I'll be content to just watch for now.

The month before I was born, Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his "Letter from Birmingham." It denounced the suggestions that civil rights could wait for a better time or "more convenient season."

He wrote, "We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. Frankly, I have yet to engage in a direct action campaign that was "well timed" in the view of those who have not suffered unduly from the disease of segregation. For years now I have heard the word "Wait!" It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This "Wait" has almost always meant "Never." We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that "justice too long delayed is justice denied."

More than 45 years later, I'm hearing gays saying that this isn't the right time for gay marriage. "Wait. Now is not the season." My response is: NO.
