Label me as a troublemaker
Jul. 8th, 2008 06:19 pmThe front desks prints a bunch of patient labels when patients check in. These labels are put on lab requisitions, referrals, prescriptions slips, specimen containers, etc.
In an apparent effort to save money, the front desk staff has been instructed to print six labels for each patient instead of the usual dozen. This means that the doctors often run out. They stop what they are doing, ask the clinical staff for labels, we interrupt the front desk staff, get more labels and then give them to the doctors. Sometimes the doctors don't ask for more labels. They just give us forms and specimens that aren't labeled.
The dollars saved each day on fewer labels can be measured. The unproductivity and mishandled forms/specimens, not so much.
