I gave my persuasive speech for class tonight. My topic was "San Francisco should adopt 'Wear A Nametag Day.'" It went okay. I really rushed it. It needed to 8-10 minutes, with a 1-minute grace period. During practice, I kept getting close to 11 minutes. You lose a grade for every minute you go over the grace period, and I was freaking out that I'd go too long.

Somehow, I shaved 2 minutes off my time during the speech. I must have been speed talking. I found that speeking fast at least gives me fewer ums. I'll mostly like be docked for speaking too quickly, but I think I did persuade some people that it's a good idea.

Meanwhile, I now hate the idea, but I had to pretend to go for it.

I dreaded doing this particular speech, so I'm thrilled it over and done with.

A fact from my speech: Only 35% of San Francisco residents were born in California. 40% were born in another country. In my class, I asked, and only 3 people (out of 30) were born & raised in SF.
