Hold Me, Batboy
Nov. 3rd, 2005 10:54 pmBatboy was fun! I used my student id to get $5 off the $20 ticket, so it was a cheap theatre night. The #33 bus dropped me off right in front of the theatre. With open seating, I got a 7th row aisle seat with a great view of the stage. I was across the aisle from "premium" $30 seats.
Only knowing the score, I wasn't sure what to expect from the staging. The opening number blew me away. The choreography had me cracking up, in a good way. I didn't know the show was supposed to be so funny. There were 15-16 cast members. Some had ultra-quick, not-so-subtle costume/sex changes onstage. Some casting was just plain funny. The black minister doubled as the white children's mother. Lots of giggles.
The show was well done by most, especially by the Bat Boy and Shelly. Some of the sound sucked at different times, but most was understandable. I'm sure the Children, Children number would get some furries hot & bothered. Too funny.
I saw half a dozen people I knew. Dale, from the SFGMC, was in the cast.
It was raining pretty hard when I got out of the theatre. I saw that there were taxis around, but the #33 bus arrived within a minute of me getting to the bus stop. Perfect!
They did announce that Batboy will be performed annually around this same time. If you don't get to see it this weekend, be sure to see it next year!
