Post Office Update
Feb. 1st, 2005 04:04 pmToday I was "processed" for the Custodian job. They had me do more paperwork and took my picture. I was there for about two hours, but only spent a few minutes total with about 5 different people. There was no discussing the job. They were wanting me to start next Monday, and I said I was unavailable. They said fine, I would start on the 22nd, unless the job was filled or cut in the meantime.
These people are not very clear in their correspondence. Another person was processing today, just like me. He told them that he'd have to give his two weeks' notice at his current job (duh), so couldn't start next week either. Someone else said that he was getting sworn in as a citizen next Monday. They first gave him a choice of starting next week or becoming a citizen. Jesus. They finally explained to him that the correct choice was to get sworn in next week, and then to start the following pay cycle.
I will interview for the mail carrier job on Friday, then come home and call them to take me off the list for the Custodian job. I found out today that the Custodian job would be out there on Evans Street, shift 6:30am-3:30pm, with Thursday and Friday off. Not too bad really, but they need to let people know this kind of stuff before "processing" them.
If I interview fine for the mail carrier position, then most of my processing (medical, etc.) will have already been done, so that would expedite hiring. Again, the Custodian job won't pay my rent. The Mail Carrier position would pay my rent (barely), but it seems like something I could enjoy (complaining about).
