Going postal
Jan. 6th, 2005 03:28 pmI got to the Evans Avenue Post Office at 6:45am this morning. Such a pleasure to take a bus ride through Hunters Point when it's dark outside! (No prob, really. It just worries a certain sweetie of mine.)
Showed up at Room 57 with three other guys. Apparently there were supposed to be five of us, but someone didn't bother to show up. The woman doing our paperwork said that if we cleared the medical assessment, we'd be hired. They had enough positions open for all of us.
The medical assessment consisted of a LOT of paperwork. 80 fill-in-the-circle-with-number-two-pencil questions, plus several other forms with other questions. They checked bloodpressure and did some eye test.
One of the questions was "Has your doctor prescribed medicine for you to take regularly?" Of course, I answered YES. That led to a followup meeting with the head nurse. "What medicine are you taking and why?" Discussing HIV during an employment interview process just seems odd. Instead of "clearing" me for work, she gave me a letter to take to my doctor. He has to fill it out saying I'm "ok to work," and then fax it back. It didn't sound like the HIV would be an issue at all, it was just odd to discuss it.
One of the nurses pulled me aside afterwards and told me that Custodian was the best job at that facility. Her husband does it, and he ends up "actually working" about two hours during his shift. The rest of the time is spent watching videos or sleeping. "Of course, you didn't hear that from me." Eek. Am I to be impressed by her lazy husband? She was sweet as punch, though, and I think she just wanted to put a bug in my ear to take the job.
Now I just wait for another letter from them for the next step. I think it was May or June when I originally took the first test for this job! Gotta love efficiency.
I'm still not looking to take this particular job. I'll continue to follow up on it, though. Perhaps my mind will be changed after hearing all the specifics of a job offer.

(no subject)
Jan. 6th, 2005 10:58 pmSo I didn't injure Junior tonight. He obliged and played the piano some for me tonight, but he hasn't practiced recently. Grrrrr. It wasn't so bad with him there, but if I never saw him again, that'd be okay. Tonight could possibly have been the last time I see him, and that didn't phase me a bit.
Tonight didn't seem to flow too well. That happens sometimes. At least there were lots of hot guys in my home. I've got crushes on a bunch of 'em.
Tom seemed to have fun, which was the whole purpose of tonight's get-together. Gary-aoke started over 3 years ago when Tom was by best-est friend. He came over to my apartment one evening, and we sat down and sang a bunch of tunes. It was so fun, that we invited Junior. Then
glovercom. Then a couple others, including
sflonestar and
spaceybear, and it grew from there.
Singing "For Good" from Wicked got me sentimental about Tom. I have indeed been changed for good. I first met Tom at the Lone Star on the night that Dennis dumped me. He was part of starting Gary-aoke. He dragged me to my first Bearhug. He took me to my first nude resort, CCBC. We shared lots of good times. Indeed the Rhoda to my Mary.
