Lucky Stiff
Aug. 7th, 2004 09:32 amI thought Helen Keller had died a long time ago. Apparently, she's alive and is in charge of auditions for community theatre in Pacifica. Who'd have known??!!
double_ohsteven and I went to see Lucky Stiff last night with
arkanjil and
dakoopst. I attend community theatre with lowered expectations. Guess I didn't lower them enough last night.
Wow, amazing how one bad actor can bring down a show by himself. Such power! So what do you do with someone who cannot act and who sings worse than me? Make him your lead actor! Eek. When someone makes the whole audience cringe, I suspect that's not a good thing. At least he was creative. In fact, some of those notes he sang have probably never been heard, um, ever.
The rest of the cast did a decent, if not very good job. Of course, community theatre and accents usually are a funny combination. Even if we are laughing at you instead of with you, it's still laughing, right?
I can still say that I think Lucky Stiff is a cute little show. It was a fun night out, but mostly because I was in good company that made things even funnier.
