Homeless hummingbirds & Oakland's on fire
Dec. 9th, 2003 09:30 amOne nice thing about our flat is that homeless people don't trek too near our place. There are always some in the "park" area of 18th/Storrie/Market, but that's a given. Yesterday, there was one sleeping in the doorway of the empty hair salon at 18th & Clover. That's as far up as I've seen 'em. On Sunday we saw a sorry site: between Eureka & Diamond on 18th, there was a homeless man asleep under an American flag sleeping bag. Good photo op, bad situation. I've noticed more and more homeless on this side of Castro during the last month. Not good, but still not too near our place.
Our downstairs office has a relaxing view of the back garden. It's relaxing and keeps your mind off the homeless. Lots of greenery, maybe an occasional cat. On both Sunday & Monday I saw a hummingbird. A "big" green one. Maybe my honey will get me a hummingbird feeder for Christmas?
Yesterday I came up from the office at just the time the sun must have been setting and peeking over Twin Peaks. Our deck has a good view of the Oakland hills. The sun reflected off several windows there, looking like a dozen fires. At first, I even thought they were fires. Burn, baby, burn.
